Watercolour pencils: how do I use them properly?

Watercolour pencils have 2 major advantages: the precision of a coloured pencil and the ability to be diluted with water. These tools are often used outside the studio and are easy to use.

Here are some valuable tips that will help you take advantage of their benefits!

This portrait was created using 4 pencils. Some fine lines remain sharp, while others, once wet, turn into watercolours with the help of a wet brush.

This creates depth effects, balancing the precision of drawing and the softness of the watercolour.

If you want your lines to blend perfectly, make the textures as tight as possible.

On a thick surface, like Canson® Montval® paper, you can wet a large amount of pigment. This will turn into a "mini watercolour pot".

Two or more colours can be mixed together.

Example: yellow + blue = green

Important: watercolour pencils can be used independently and meet all the criteria of classic watercolour. The choice is yours.
