Canson® and the Louvre

Above and beyond a mutual passion for the art world, Canson® and the Louvre share the same ambition: to make art understandable and accessible to as many people as possible.

To this end, Canson® has been collaborating with the Louvre to deliver educational workshops for more than ten years. Activities that take place in the Studio's workshop rooms and the museum's exhibition rooms allow us to tackle the keys of creation, be initiated into techniques, discover civilizations and discuss works.

Since 2019, in addition to drawing paper, the F.I.L.A. Group has been providing the Louvre's workshops with all materials necessary for the creative expression of students, amateurs and artists of all ages who come to practice their techniques.

Canson®, patron of the Graphic Arts Department, is also sponsoring the restoration of Charles-Philippe Larivière's (1798-1876) preparatory drawings for the Chapelle Royale in Dreux as well as approximately a dozen drawing albums per year, including the album of Tangier by Eugène Delacroix.  The restorations minimise the natural decay of these historic works, thereby ensuring that a part of our mutual heritage is preserved for generations to come. Restorations ensure that the albums will stand the test of time through the publication of facsimiles. Since 2010, this time-consuming and detailed work has been made possible through close collaboration between the Louvre and Canson®.

In 2023, Canson® is also sponsoring an exhibition that will present the masterpieces of the Capodimonte Museum in Naples within the collections of the Louvre Museum for an engaging dialogue through a unique partnership between the two museums. More specifically, Canson® will be involved in the graphic arts area of the Clock Pavilion, where the four masterpieces of drawing from the old Farnese collection will be displayed: an autographed drawing by Michelangelo, one by Raphael, and two others by collaborators similar to Raphael or his pupils preserved in the Louvre.

This is why, at Canson®, we really value our collaboration with the Louvre, and so do our customers and employees. They're proud to be a part of the history of this prestigious museum.
