19th European Watercolour Exhibition and Symposium
As well as offering the pleasure of viewing watercolours from all over Europe, this will also be an opportunity to discover or rediscover L’Aquarelle Canson® Héritage paper in Avignon from 17th November...
The European watercolour exhibition, which will take place over the three floors of the Cloître Saint-Louis, 20 rue du portail Boquier in Avignon, will bring together works by 208 artists from 12 European countries, all of whom are members of the confederation.
Each member country of the European Confederation of Watercolour Societies was invited to select works from between 8 and 20 of their members, according to their own criteria and, for the first time, the confederation has allowed exchanges with other continents and invited the Watercolour Society of San Diego in California to participate.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 16th November at 6.30pm at the Cloître Saint-Louis. This ceremony will be followed by an aperitif provided by the French Watercolour Society and the Winegrowers of Laudun-Chusclan, who are partnering the event.
The exhibition will then be open every day from 2pm to 6.30pm, except Mondays, until 11th December. Visitors will be able to meet the artists, who will attend to help them explore the exhibition. Several artists will be present each day.
Homage will be paid to Louis Montagné, the famous painter from Avignon who ran the Avignon art school during the first half of the 20th century. He presided over the French Watercolour Society and was a founder member of the drawing and watercolour painting salon that took place at the Grand Palais in Paris each year. Several of his works will be exhibited, lent by his family.
An art catalogue of 264 pages, reproducing all the works in the exhibition, each with a full page, will be published for the event. It will be on sale for a special price of 25 € during the duration of the exhibition at Cloître St Louis.
