Rob Prior

Rob Prior (1964) is an internationally renowned pop artist and fine art painter. ThoughPrior is most well-known for creating vibrant, vivid portraits of actors, musicians, andcultural figures, his expansive oeuvre also incorporates wildlife, expressionism,surrealism. To view a Rob Prior painting is to experience that painting’s creation.

 

Combining an unparalleled talent with a performer’s instincts, Prior has been called“one of the preeminent creators of his generation.” He first achieved notoriety as aperformance painter whose ambidextrous and energetic creative process continues tomesmerize audiences around the world. Viewers stand transfixed while Prior paints tomusic--using both hands and often with his eyes closed. As a live painter, Prior hastoured extensively, painting at cultural centers, sporting events, and entertainmentvenues before audiences numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

 

For more than forty years, Prior has performed with musical acts including Tech9ine, FloRi Da, Linkin Park, Panterra, and more. He appears frequently at movie premiers andother entertainment events in Los Angeles and New York, including the 2017 HandPrint Ceremony for comic book legend Stan Lee and the 2019 premier of Spider-Man:Far From Home. In 2018, Prior made his debut appearance at Art Basel - Miami beforeembarking on a two-month Pan-American tour through the Philippines and China.Additional tours have taken him throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.Over the course of his diverse and expansive career, Prior’s works have shown inprestigious museums and galleries, including a juried exhibition at the Louvre (2007)and at art fairs and festivals around the world. He has debuted dozens of collectionsincluding theStan Lee Legacy Collection,Experience Africa, the27 Club, andDancersSeries 1. Currently, Prior is at work on a collection of portraits celebrating50 Years ofHip-Hop.

 

In 2022, Prior made headlines with the sale of a single portrait of famed fashion iconVirgil Abloh. Prior completed the painting over the course of a two-hour performanceat Art Basel – Miami, after which the portrait sold for $1 million.

 

Prior holds an MFA from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He maintains a training studio inLos Angeles, where he makes his home with his wife and children.
