Rafael Pita

Rafael Pita is a watercolorist, illustrator, and watercolor instructor with a prominent presence in the contemporary visual arts scene. Known for his sensitive yet technically refined approach to watercolor, he developed his own teaching method — “Unlocking Watercolor” — which has already reached thousands of students through online courses. He also travels across Brazil offering in-person workshops and immersive experiences. His work is marked by a balance between precision and spontaneity, exploring themes such as nature, the human figure, and everyday life with lyricism and authenticity.

In addition to his artistic practice, Rafael is deeply committed to nurturing new talents by making watercolor more accessible and inclusive. His artworks have been featured in official exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and published by Brazilian publishers, establishing him as a key figure in the field. As a Canson ambassador, he represents technical excellence and a passion for spreading artistic knowledge — values he shares with the brand throughout his journey.

Canson has always been part of my artistic journey, from my first sketches to my most recent works. It’s a brand with nearly 500 years of history, and that legacy is present in every sheet. That’s why I use Canson papers both in my courses and in my final pieces. I know I can rely on the quality and consistency they deliver. Over the years, I’ve had many favorite papers, but the Aquarelle 60% cotton has become essential in my creative process. It responds exactly the way I need, gives me the freedom to explore techniques, and faithfully conveys my artistic language. I’m truly grateful to be part of this story and to work with a paper that supports and enhances every stage of my work.
