Luiz Escañuela

Luiz Escañuela (São Caetano do Sul, SP, 1993) holds a degree in graphic design and has been working as a visual artist since 2017.

His research is primarily guided by the meticulous craftsmanship of oil painting, combining conceptual and theoretical experiments on anatomical representation and its possibilities. The works propose the conception of human beings as a species and social entities, exploring the properties of skin and body juxtaposed with Brazilian historical, iconographic, and cartographic themes.

With two solo exhibitions, 'Don't Forget What is Epic' (São Paulo, 2022) and 'DISRUPTO' (São Paulo, 2019), his work is part of important collections, and he has participated in various collective exhibitions, fairs, and national and international salons. He also works as an illustrator and designer.

"My favorite Canson paper is Figueras. Since I work mostly with canvases, a paper that replicates the texture of canvas is ideal for my work."
