The Prix Canson®
The Prix CANSON®, awarded by a panel of key figures from the world of art and culture, recognises an artist whose work is the fruit of real research in the field of Art and Paper.
It rewards a French or international emerging artist who works with paper, whether through drawing or through other creative forms (painting, collage, sculpture, installations … but not pure photography).
The nominees are chosen by a jury drawn from the world of art and culture, assembled by Laurent Boudier, art critic, exhibition curator and artistic advisor to the Fonds Canson®. Each of the nine jury members selects three talented artists whose works contribute to the influence of art and of paper by their nature or style. Jury members may not vote for their own nominees. Since 2011, each of Canson®'s subsidiaries has also been able to present a candidate according to the same criteria.
The Prix Canson® is thus not open to applications, and does not accept unsolicited entries.
The jury meets once a year to choose the winner, who is honoured at a prize-giving ceremony in June.
The Fonds Canson® pour l’Art et le Papier gives the winner a stock of Canson® paper worth €10,000, together with significant exposure through the media and an exhibition in at least one major international contemporary art fair in the year after the Prize is awarded.
The nominated artists are also exhibited, and their work is presented at the Prix Canson® ceremony.
