Back 2014 Prix Canson®: Simon Evans

«Simon Evans is an obsessive.

The English artist covers pages with lists, diagrams and charts, whose graphic rigor he adapts to his disenchanted poetry. Replacing the station names on a map of the London underground with aphorisms that capture the current mood of British society. Drawing up a comprehensive inventory of objects he owns (Everything I Have) all to better ridicule the notion of ownership. As for his anatomy boards, they are full of wacky axioms and theorems. Some of his drawings are more enigmatic: devoid of texts and captions, they have the appearance of computer graphics from which the data and, consequently, the meaning has been erased. A way of re-appropriating the world by mapping it to the point of absurdity. “
