22 June 2016

After deliberation, the jury chose Njideka Akunyili Crosby.

We are pleased to announce that before his passing, the late artist Tunga, who was the President of the Jury of the Prix Canson® for the last two years, established a residency program at his home in Brazil, which will accommodate the winner of this year's Prix, Njideka Akunyili Crosby . Tunga was dedicated to the Prix Canson® up until his death, and we appreciate his unfettered dedication to the arts. He will be missed.

About the winner, Njideka Akunyili Crosby :

The artist currently lives in Los Angeles. In her work, Nigerian and American cultures merge. She recounts a part of her life and pays tribute to Western painting, without forgetting her African roots. And she seeks to remain connected to the idea of "home," which she finds both in her country of origin and in the United States.
